Week 29 - Wall-E

WALL-E, promoted with an interpunct as WALL•E, is a 2008 American computer-animated post-apocalyptic science fiction film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and directed by Andrew Stanton. The story follows a robot named WALL-E, who is designed to clean up a waste-covered Earth far in the future. He falls in love with another robot named EVE, who also has a programmed task, and follows her into outer space on an adventure that changes the destiny of both his kind and humanity. Both robots exhibit an appearance of free will and emotions similar to humans, which develop further as the film progresses. Walt Disney Pictures released it in the United States and Canada on June 27, 2008. The film grossed $23.2 million on its opening day, and $63.1 million during its opening weekend in 3,992 theaters, ranking #1 at the box office. This ranks as the fifth highest-grossing opening weekend for a Pixar film. Following Pixar tradition, WALL-E was paired with a short film, Presto, for its theatrical release.

Another Pixar film! Honestly, I keep thinking that the Pixar sketches will be the hardest, since they're 3D, but so far they seem to be coming out the best. Here's the cute little robot from planet earth, flying through space with his fire extinguisher! And what's that he's making in his wake? A heart! Just in time for Valentine's Day!

Week 28 - Pocahontas

Pocahontas is the 33rd animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. It was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and was originally released to selected theaters on June 16, 1995 by Walt Disney Pictures. It belongs to the era known as the Disney Renaissance that began in 1989 and ended in 1999.

The film is the first animated feature Disney film to be based on a real historic character, based on the known history and also the folklore and legend that surround the Native American woman Pocahontas, and features a fictionalized account of her encounter with Englishman John Smith and the settlers that arrived from the Virginia Company.

Week 28- almost halfway! Valentine's Day is this week and with that I'd like to tell everyone what a wonderful love story this movie is! I watched it again while my husband was at work the other day, and believe me the movie made me cry! I remember when I was a kid I used to sneak around like Pocahontas, when she first sneaks up to John Smith C:

Week 27 - Pinocchio

Pinocchio is a 1940 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and based on the story The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. It is the second film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics, and was made after the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was released to theaters by RKO Radio Pictures on February 7, 1940. The plot of the film involves an old wood-carver named Geppetto who carves a wooden puppet named Pinocchio who is brought to life by a blue fairy, who tells him he can become a real boy if he proves himself "brave, truthful, and unselfish". Thus begin the puppet's adventures to become a real boy, which involve many encounters with a host of unsavory characters.

Only a DAY late this time! I'm so happy that I pushed myself to get this one done! I'm pulling in a lot of money for my savings this month, not to boast, but it's because of my taxes and a commission that I got! I'm really happy I can save all this money up now- I've been waiting so long to take my husband to Disney World... especially for our honeymoon- I'm getting more and more excited!

Week 26 - Robin Hood

Robin Hood is an 1973 American animated film produced by the Walt Disney Productions, first released in the United States on November 8, 1973. The 21st animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film is based on the legend of Robin Hood, but uses anthropomorphic animals instead of people.

Horrible logo is horrible. I got a little lazy with the logo on this one, mostly because I'm terrible at drawing animals. I think this one turned out alright, but not as good as my usual posts. Still, I'm excited because now I'm back on track with my Disney savings!

Week 25 - Up

Up is a 2009 American computer-animated comedy-adventure film produced by Pixar, distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and presented in Disney Digital 3-D. The film premiered on May 29, 2009 in North America and opened the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first animated and 3D film to do so. The film was director Pete Docter's second film, the first being 2001's Monsters, Inc., and features the voices of Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer, Bob Peterson, and Jordan Nagai. It is Pixar's tenth feature film and the studio's first to be presented in Disney Digital 3-D, and is accompanied in theaters and DVD releases by the short film Partly Cloudy.

I'm really starting to get excited for the trip! I still haven't paid it off yet, but I'm just realizing that I'm nearing the halfway mark of my whole Weekly Disney Magic project! Week 30 actually happens to be the same week as I and my husband's first anniversary, so as we're celebrating that we'll also be halfway on our way to Florida! Another good thing is that I think I'm finally going to be able to get back on track with my savings soon- I really hope so, because I've been worried about it for a while.

Trying Something New

I'm not completely sure how to use it, but I've made a technorati account in hopes of bringing attention to my blog. I've also started writing a comic book! Hopefully these new things will bring about good tidings, especially when it comes to what I do with my free time.

My Disney savings is also slowly getting back on track- I'm not exactly where I was before the car was stolen, but if things work out right then I can at least pay off the balance for my trip! (hopefully I can save some extra for souvenirs as well!)

Week 24 - Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American animated musical-fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. The thirtieth film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series and the third film of theDisney Renaissance period, the film is based on the fairy tale La Belle et la Bête by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont and uses some ideas from the 1946 film of the same name. The film centers around a prince who is transformed into a Beast and a young woman named Belle whom he imprisons in his castle. To become a prince again, the Beast must love Belle and win her love in return, or he will remain a Beast forever.

I got a little lazy with the logo for this one- sorry for that. I really didn't want to do the scene with Belle in the ballroom, since most of the movie covers and advertisements show that scene, so I did one of the rose- which is really what the story is about, to begin with. Week 23 - Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland is a 1951 American animated feature produced by Walt Disney and based primarily on Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with a few additional elements from Through the Looking-Glass. Thirteenth in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film was released in New York City and London on July 29, 1951 by RKO Radio Pictures. The film features the voices of Kathryn Beaumont (who also voiced Wendy Darling in the 1953 Disney Peter Pan) as Alice, and Ed Wynn as the Mad Hatter.

This week's was late again, I know. But I like the background that I made for this one, and I think if you look at Alice you can start to see that after 23 weeks I really am improving! Saving up has been pretty slow lately, and maybe that's the reason my motivation for drawing these on time is dwindling. I'm going to try and do my best to finish what I've started- I'm determined to go to Florida this October! Wish me luck, please!

I have to admit, I really was a little skeptical before this movie came out- just because I didn't think it looked that interesting. I thought that setting a fairy-tale in a roaring twenties New Orleans was a dumb idea. Well you should have seen how fast I changed my mind. The animation in this movie is gorgeous- especially the voodoo scene in the beginning of the film. I've been watching this movie nonstop since it came to Netflix, and then my dvd ever since they took it off. For that reason I put a lot of effort in this one, and I love how it turned out. Keep in mind, it IS only a sketch, but I still think it looks awesome!

Week 21 - A Bug's Life

A Bug's Life is a 1998 American computer animated adventure comedy film produced by Pixar and released by Walt Disney Pictures in the United States on November 25, 1998. Directed by John Lasseter, the film is the second Disney-Pixar feature film after Toy Story, and the third American computer-animated film after Toy Story and DreamWorks' Antz. Based on Akira Kurosawa's film Seven Samurai, and Aesop's fable "The Ant and the Grasshopper", it tells the tale of an oddball individualist inventor ant named Flik who hires what he thinks are "warrior bugs" — actually circus performers — to fight off a small band of grasshoppers who have made the ant colony their servants. The film received critical acclaim and was a box office success.

I love this one! I think I did a great job on the title, and I'm definitely getting better at each Disney style- each artist's style, that is. I'll really try to get next week's done on time- it's The Princess and the Frog!

Week 20 - Dumbo

Dumbo is a 1941 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and released on October 23, 1941, by RKO Radio Pictures. The fourth film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, Dumbo is based upon the storyline written by Helen Aberson and illustrated by Harold Pearl for the prototype of a novelty toy ("Roll-a-Book"). The main character is Jumbo Jr., a semi-anthropomorphic elephant who is cruelly nicknamed "Dumbo". He is ridiculed for his big ears, but in fact he is capable of flying by using his ears as wings. Throughout most of the film, his only true friend, aside from his mother, is the mouse, Timothy — a relationship parodying the stereotypical animosity between mice and elephants.

Week 19 - Meet the Robinsons

The forty-seventh animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics, the film was released in both the United States and the United Kingdom in standard and Disney Digital 3-D versions in the United States. Its standard version in the UK on March 30, 2007. The film is based on the book A Day with Wilbur Robinson, by William Joyce. The film originally had the same title as the book. The voice cast includes Jordan Fry, Harland Williams, Tom Kenny, Steve Anderson, Laurie Metcalf, Adam West, Tom Selleck& Angela Bassett. It was released on DVD-Video and Blu-ray on October 23, 2007.

Another late post, another stressful week. I don't really have too much to say this week- I almost skipped this week's drawing actually, because my grandmother passed away last Friday. But I know she wouldn't want me to fall into a slump, so here's week number 19.

Week 18 - TRON Legacy

Ever since this movie came to Netflix, it instantly went to the top of my favorite live-action Disney films. I really love this movie. Of course, I've never seen the original, but this cast, music, story, and special effects in this movie got me totally hooked on. I don't think my drawing does it that much justice , though lol.

Week 17 - Cinderella

Twelfth in the Walt Disney AnimatedClassics series, the film had a limited release on February 15, 1950by RKO Radio Pictures. Directing credits go to ClydeGeronimi, Hamilton Luske and Wilfred Jackson. Songswere written by Mack David, Jerry Livingston, and AlHoffman. Wow, even I suprised myself a bit with this one! I started this right after Tarzan, so I thought I might get tired of drawing halfway through. But I guess I sort of got myself on a roll, since I took a lot of time doing this one's background. In case you're wondering, it's supposed to be a part of the ballroom where Cinderella first dances with Prince Charming in the film. Such a pretty scene!

Sorry I'm Late!

Okay, so any of you that follow my blog may have realized there was no post last weekend.

I'm so sorry that it got this late, but I totally lost track of time! Before I knew it, it was already Wednesday, so I decided to just leave Tarzan for this weekend, along with this week's post, Cinderella.

Right now I'm working on the first drawing, so either tonight or early tomorrow I'll have them both up. Please be patient with me- it's been a rough couple of weeks!

This week has definitely been a better one for me. For those of you who follow the blog or watch my dA account, you'll be happy to hear that I finally got a new car! It took almost 2 weeks, but we found one. It's not brand new or anything, but it's in really really good condition. So because I'm in a much better mood, I decided to put a lot more effort into the WDM this week. Ariel is my favorite of the Disney princesses, so I tried to draw her as best I could.

Week 14 - Treasure Planet

The film employs a novel technique of hand-drawn 2D traditional animation set atop 3D computer animation.

This week's isn't too detailed- if you checked my dA journal, you know that my car was stolen, so I've been pretty distracted this week :/

Week 13 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a 1988American fantasy-comedy-noir film directed by RobertZemeckis and released by Touchstone Pictures. The filmcombines live action and animation, and is based on Gary K.Wolf's novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, which depicts a worldin which cartoon characters interact directly with human beings. WhoFramed Roger Rabbit stars Bob Hoskins as a privatedetective who investigates a murder involving the famous cartooncharacter, Roger Rabbit. Walt Disney Pictures purchasedthe film rights to the story in 1981. Jeffrey Priceand Peter S. Seaman wrote two drafts of the script before Disneybrought in Steven Spielberg and AmblinEntertainment to help finance the film. Zemeckis was hired todirect the live-action scenes with Richard Williams overseeinganimation sequences.

Week 12 - Lilo & Stitch

The 42nd animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics, it was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, and features the voices of Sanders, Daveigh Chase, Tia Carrere, David Ogden Stiers, Kevin McDonald, Ving Rhames, Jason Scott Lee, and Kevin Michael Richardson. Lilo & Stitch was the second of three Disney animated features produced primarily at the Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida studio located at Walt Disney World's Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida. Lilo & Stitch was nominated for the 2002 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, which ultimately went to Hayao Miyazaki's film, Spirited Away, also distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

Lilo and Stitch! I had a hard time with this one, I'll have to admit. Chris Sanders's style is a difficult one to mimic, but I still think Lilo turned out really well (not so much for Stitch, lol).

Week 11 - One Hundred and One Dalmations

I have to say I can't remember the lasttime I watched this movie haha except that it was probably when I wasREALLY little. From childhood memories I know I liked the live-actionmovie just a smidge more c: But this is still a great movie- myfavorite quote is "A HUNDRED AND ONE!" *facepalm* Also,I've been adding a lot of villains to my sketches, haha. I guess Ijust really like drawing them :3

Week 10 - Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Atlantis: The Lost Empire is a 2001 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It was the first science-fiction and 41st entry to the Disney animated features canon. The sci-fi action film was written by Tab Murphy, directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, and produced by Don Hahn. Set in 1914, the film tells the story of a young linguist who gains possession of a sacred book which he believes will guide him to the lost city of Atlantis. He is enlisted by a band of archaeologists, excavators and mercenaries who also want to find the city, but their leader plans to sabotage the mission, in order to take the profit for himself.

Atlantis is probably my favorite non-princess Disney movie. I love the time period, and ever since I was little I've had a crush on little nerdy Milo! This week is week number ten, and a year from today I'll be at the airport waiting to go to Disney World!

Week 9 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a 1937 American animated film based on Snow White, a German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. It was the first full-length cel-animated feature in motion picture history, as well as the first animated feature film produced in America, the first produced in full color, the first to be produced by Walt Disney and Walt Disney Productions, and the first in the Walt Disney Animated Classics canon.

Week 8 - Dinosaur

At officially $130million, it was the most expensive theatrical movie releaseof the year. This was Disney's 39th animated feature.

Okay,I had a little bit of help from my husband with this one. He's myexpert dino artist, so he sort of did a quick sketch for Aladar'spose, while I went back over it again and added detail to it. I'vealways loved Dinosaur- I never actually realized when I was a kid howmost of the movie was shot live (they added the dinosaurs inafterwards).

Week 7 - The Emperor's New Groove

The Emperor's New Groove (2000) is an American animated filmproduced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures through Buena Vista Distribution on December 15, 2000. It is the 40th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics. The title refers to the Danish fairy tale The Emperor's New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen, though the two have little else in common. A comedy produced by Randy Fullmer and directed byMark Dindal, The Emperor's New Groove was altered significantly over six years of development and production from its original concept as a more traditional Disney musical entitled Kingdom of the Sun, to have been directed by Dindal and Roger Allers (co-director ofThe Lion King).

Yes! I loved this movie when it came out, and I still do- it's so funny! I admit this one was a little tough- the style was I think made to look like mayan carvings, so everything's angular (whereas my art is really curvy, lol). Still, I really liked how it turned out, especially the logo. And let me tell you, Yzma is DIFFICULT to get down, haha. I kept re-drawing her so that she'd actually look like herself and not just a wrinkly old fruit c:

Week 6 - Toy Story

My first Pixar movie sketch! I know they don't look exactly like our favorite plastic heroes, but remember, this movie was done in CGI, not 2D, so it was harder to draw (please forgive me!). Toy Story is a 1995 American computer-animated film released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is Pixar's first feature film as well as the first ever feature film to be made entirely with CGI. The film was directed by John Lasseter and featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. It was written by Lasseter, Joss Whedon, Andrew Stanton, Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, and featured music by Randy Newman.Toy Story follows a group of toys who pretend to be lifeless whenever humans are present, and focuses on Woody, a pull-string cowboy doll (Hanks), and Buzz Lightyear, an astronaut action figure (Allen).

Week 5 - Pete's Dragon

Pete's Dragon is a 1977 live-action/animated musical film from Walt Disney Productions and the first Disney film to be recorded in theDolby Stereo sound system. It is a live-action film but its title character, a dragon named Elliott, is animated. The story is about a young orphan named Pete who enters the fictional town of Passamaquoddy a small fishing community in Northeastern Maine in the early 20th century. His only friend is a dragon named Elliott, who also acts as his protector.

Okay, so this week I decided to just draw from a reference pic, since most of the film was just live-action. I really didn't want to draw Pete, mainly because the blog was only supposed to be animated films (I had to include Pete's Dragon because I loved it as a kid, and technically it is animated, if only partly). I feel like I cheated by looking at actual art from the movie, but again I was rushing this week- I find that rushing is a good thing, since it means my weeks are going by fast until the trip.

Week 4 - Hercules

Hercules is a 1997 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The thirty-fifth animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The film is based on the legendary Greek mythology hero Heracles (known in the film by his Roman name, Hercules), the son of Zeus, in Greek mythology.

I wanted to add a lot more to this pic, but I actually ended up rushing it, and Meg and Phil wouldn't fit :c But I still really like the way it turned out!

Week 3 - Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is a 1959 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and based on the fairy tale "La Belle au bois dormant" byCharles Perrault. It was released to theatres on January 29, 1959 by Buena Vista Distribution.

So, starting this week, I thought I'd do the rest of my pics in the actual style of their movie. Not only will it look more authentic and recognizable if it's drawn like the movie is, it also gives me practice in the various Disney artists' styles.

Week 2 - Oliver and Company

Oliver & Company is a 1988 American animated film in which a homeless kitten named Oliver joins a gang of dogs to survive on the 1980s New York City streets. The film was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and became the twenty-seventh animated feature released in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. The film is inspired by Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist, which has been adapted many other times for the screen. In this version, Oliver is a cat, Fagin's gang is made up of dogs (one of which is Dodger), and Sikes is a loan shark.

Let me start out by saying that I NEVER draw animals, lol. Although I'm kind of proud of my first attempt, I know there are tons of artists that can draw better Disney-style dogs than me. So please don't be rude and tell me what I already know, lol.

Week 1 - Aladdin

I decided to post a day early this week, since I finished this up on Tuesday.

Disney's Aladdin (1992). My favorite character was always the magic carpet (for some reason he reminded me of my dog when I was a kid) so I had to add him in to the picture. Aladdin was the 31st animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, and was part of the Disney film era known as the Disney Renaissance. The film was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, and is based on the Arab folktale of Aladdin and the magic lamp from One Thousand and One Nights.

Hello everyone!

My name's Ashley and I'm aspiring Disney animation artist. I'm planning a trip to Disney World soon, and I thought that in order to pass the time until my trip, I should have a little fun!

My goal is basically this: I've made a list of my 60 favorite Disney movies (which is just about all of them), scrambled them up, and assigned them numbers. Every week until my trip, I'm going to draw/sketch characters from the movie for that week. Sounds fun, right?
